About Me
Maty is a versatile writer with experience across a range of forms and mediums.
Born in the Ukraine, raised in Israel, and residing in Toronto, Canada, he’s not only developed a proficiency in all three languages, but also an appreciation for different cultures and people that informs both his writing and his life.
Maty began writing poetry in his early teens. At 21 he completed his first novella and began drafting his first novel. He has since written short stories, short and feature-length screenplays, teleplays, and other serialized work.
Taking a holistic approach to film-making, Maty was interested in the technical aspects of production as much as in the conceptual process of writing and always sought opportunities to be on set. He attended several internships and aided the production of a documentary feature film, quickly rising from Production Assistant to Production Coordinator.
He taught himself the basics of non-linear editing on the popular Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro NLEs. To test-drive his skills, he spent the summer freelancing as a videographer—writing, shooting, and editing several commercial video projects for such clients as Stir Media.
In the past several years, Maty began offering his commercial writing services to individuals and corporations, ranging from blogging to website copy and translation. He ran a business and technology blog alongside socials media marketing for a US-based VPBX provider, wrote promotional video scripts to advertise products and services, collaborated with an online team of editors on the release of a new Hebrew-English-Hebrew dictionary, and more.
Recently, he has finished writing the first season of a new web series that he hopes to co-produce. He then plans to take some time to get back to his novel and to publish a long-planned illustrated poetry book.
Other Interests
Maty is a Jazz fiend and finds few things as inspiring as kicking back with a good album. He loves cycling and will often go on long rides along the lake. He also has a soft spot for chocolate (he may in fact be one giant soft spot when it comes to that!)
He hopes to tour the country in a campervan accompanied by his feline co-writer/pilot, Lila, sightseeing, adventuring, and writing in remote locations.
